Audrey's Journal (Part 2)

A couple of months ago—back in November or October, I think—I posted a snippet titled Audrey's Journal. To be completely honest, I didn't give much thought to it, although I did share the full story with some friends of mine and they enjoyed it greatly.

However, I decided to post this snippet, and I will be sending the full story to my newsletter subscribers (if you aren't subscribed to the newsletter, now would be a great time to do so, as I will be sending the story out on the 28th). Enjoy!

I suppose I should tell you more about what we are doing (at least, that is what Kenna tells us we should do) and who we are.

Kenna is my crazy cousin, and she figured out why they are controlling us. How they are controlling us (although, really, she didn’t figure it out—I did!), actually.

The old stories tell of a box, a box that holds all of our hopes, and dreams, and resistance.

But when they came, the dreaded invaders from the far-off lands, their leaders held counsel at the meeting of the five rivers, and they captured the spirits of our five rivers and drained the rivers of their blood, and from those empty spirits, they crafted a key.

And from that key, they found a way to the box, to our treasure. And they beat down the protectors—our warriors— our gifts from the skylands, and they found our box and locked it.

But my cousin thinks if we find that key (yes, a key, not a book), we can open that box, and we can free all of the hope that has left us back into the world.

And with all those things flooding back, perhaps —maybe—I hope—we can create an army strong enough to fight these horrible monsters who have taken over our soil.

...

I close my eyes as Kenna, William, Abby, Ethan, and Isaac’s voices rise up. Usually, this day—the anniversary of the attack on our town—makes me cry, but today, I know, things will get better.

This time, there is hope that perhaps, next year, a fire will be burning from our little flame.

...

I hope you enjoyed that snippet! What do you think of it?

Also, I have been rather...inactive on both my newsletter and blog. I'm debating about sending the February newsletter, even though it's going to be able three weeks late, anyway, but what do you think? Should I send it?

Thank you so much for your support. It means so much.
