Audrey's Journal (part i)

I've started a little series (that's going to be around 2,000 words) that takes place about five years before my project, Take These Broken Shards. I'm going to share it with you during the months of October & November (hint: I'm going to be working on Take These Broken Shards a lot more in that month...but I'll explain that more in this month's newsletter).

I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed writing it!

First, I want this to be clear this was not my idea. Kenna thinks it’s a good idea for all of us to start a journal so that whenever what we’re doing is going to be discovered by future historians they know what happened. Second, I want to be clear this is not a diary. This is a first hand account of the dangers we are about to go through. So be grateful to me.

It all started when Kenna realized that a priceless artifact (ie, a book) that belongs to us had been stolen. (Actually, I discovered that; she just wants to take all the credit for it—and now Kenna has a bat. So I think this concludes my entry today. Oh, and it’s the third of December. We have nineteen days to plan this thing. I still don’t get why Kenna wants to do it on my birthday…) We're still trying to figure out how we're going to get it back, though.

Today, the children went out to look for scallop shells (that’s what Kenna told me to write, “the children” are my younger sisters and Kenna’s younger brother. They’re ten, eight, seven, and six.), while Kenna and I made plans to get the book back. The book we’re trying to get back is an artifact that will free us (that’s what Kenna says, but I’m not sure I believe her). We don’t really have a good idea of what we’re going to do, but we’ve also been doing other things (namely, taking care of four little kids at the same time. We really need to get other people to join this cause…).

P.S. I know why Kenna wants to do it on my birthday—December 22—it’s because the book was finished on that day. Also, Kenna read my other entry and she says this isn’t funny and now I have to spend more time reporting what actually happened instead of what I think. But I’ve read journals of historical events before and they add in what they think and also I read Kenna’s journal and she does this, too…and I’m going to cross this out now because if she sees this she’ll get mad. Also, in case you were wondering, I’m Audrey.
