Guest Short Story! - A Flower Of Love

Dear writers and readers and generally lovers of words,

I know what you must be thinking.

Really, Agnès? Three posts in one week?

I know, I know. I haven't gone off my posting schedule since it was officially changed, oh, l don't know, last week?

Yikes. I really need to get better on this, but seriously, there are so many exciting things happening (aka, a bunch of blog tours and, of course, a bunch of other things). Which is why on Monday there'll be a special post...but more on that in the Newsletter (and, of course, on Monday, when I'll actually be posting).

Anyway, you know how much I love helping new bloggers! Well, this week is no different. This post is the first post in A G's blog tour for her blog, A Mountain Girl's Meanderings.

She wrote this lovely short story and I'm so happy to be helping her out by posting this!

A Flower Of Love - a guest story by a j syngraféas

Sophie

Sophie took a deep breath. The wedding was in about eight hours. Plenty of time to relax this morning.

But she looked down at the list, hurriedly written in her horrid handwriting, complete with times for everything.

Relax time complete with breakfast 8:00-9:00

Absy and Claire come over to help 9:10 ish

Get ready for the wedding 9:20-2:00

Last-minute preparations 2:00-2:50

Wedding 3:00

Sophie tore her eyes from the list. No need to worry now. Yet, this was her last day of being single. It was a big change.

She took another deep breath. “Stop worrying. Everything will be fine.”

Jason

Jason looked at the clock. 8:40 A.M. Less than seven and a half hours. Not that he was worried or anything.

He stood up from where he sat. Why not be doing something instead of sitting around? He grabbed his car keys and phone. Jason walked out the door, going to his sleek red car.

He got in, buckled his seatbelt, and started the car. He knew exactly where he was gonna go. Coffee.

Sophie

“Couldn’t you pull my hair a little less?” Sophie asked, thinking about how her auburn-blonde hair would look like after this so-called “hairdressing”.

“Oh, don’t complain. It’s gonna look lovely,” Claire replied, looking into the mirror before Sophie.

Sophie felt her hair pull again. She cringed. Why couldn’t looking pretty be easier?

“Maybe you could read something?” Absy suggested, noticing Sophie’s cringe.

Sophie slightly nodded. But that resulted in yet another pull from her older sister, Claire, who stood above her head.

“Hold still! I can’t perform without cooperation!” Claire exclaimed, pulling Sophie’s hair back to make a braid.

Absy shook her head. “I’ll go get that book.” Her red hair bounced as she skipped out of the room.

Jason

Jason was flying down the mostly empty road. Now this was nice without anything to slow him down. Just him and his music.

He wondered what Sophie was doing now. His cheeks grew red at the thought.

Then Jason rounded the turn...a large traffic jam crowded the road. It barely moved. Who knew how long he would be stuck there?

Sophie

Sophie looked at herself in the mirror. She hardly recognized herself. The long flowy white dress, the long veil, and her hair pulled into a pretty bun.

“How do you like it?” Absy asked.

Sophie turned. “I love it, my dress designer.”

Absy blushed and replied. “Thank you.”

Claire walked into the room. “Hey, guys. We better be going. The wedding is gonna start in an hour.”

“Okay, I think I’m ready!” Sophie smiled, and looked between her sister and best friend. Both were wearing lovely light pink dresses with flowers tucked behind their ears.

“Then let's go!” Claire said, walking out the front door.

Jason

There was no time. Jason was going to be late. To his own wedding! It started in ten minutes. Only enough time to drive to the church and get on his suit. But even then.

That was when he saw it. The flower shop on the side of the road. Jason pulled into the parking lot making a split second decision.

He walked inside. He found a bouquet of pink roses. Jason quickly paid and ran out of the store.

Soon he was pulling into the church parking lot. He looked at the clock. 2:56. Not too bad. Right?

Sophie

Sophie looked worriedly at her sister. “Is Jason here yet?”

“Not yet,” Claire replied.

There was tension in the air as everyone sat down. Only to stare at the pastor and the place where Jason should have been standing.

“Oh, where is he?” Sophie wondered out loud.

Then the door flew open.

“Jason!” Sophie cried, running to him. “I knew you wouldn’t be too late.”

“How could I, Soph?” Jason replied, hugging Sophie.

“Jason!” Claire ran over. “You aren’t supposed to see the bride! Go get up to your

spot! Everyone is waiting!”

“Okay, okay.” Jason turned to leave. “But first, Sophie. Here.” He held out the bouquet of roses.

“Oh!” Sophie grabbed them. “My favorite! You remembered! Oh, I love you, Jason.”

She hugged him, a joyful tear slipping down her cheek.

“I love you too, Sophie,” Jason replied.
