Hello, friends!
Have you ever wondered what's going on inside a character's brain? Are you looking for a new read? If so, this post is for you.
In this post, I'll be spotlighting a new book, Iron by Madisyn Carlin, as well as posting my interview with a character (but more about that below. For now, on with the spotlight!).
If you've read this far, you're probably wondering what Iron is.
First off, the blurb!
Enforcing justice comes with a price. Detective Redwyn “Red” Deathan will stop at nothing to uncover those behind the ruthless kidnappings of multiple children. But things are not as they seem, and Red’s efforts are thwarted at every turn. With each discovery the danger grows, putting Red and the lives of those she cares about at risk. Can she reveal the mastermind’s identity before she herself becomes a target?
It is:
1) A Christian Fantasy. 2) Nonmagical. 3) Deep. Different from Deceived and not near as intense as Shattered Reflections, but still deep because it deals with human trafficking. 4) NA (New Adult). 5) A story with three (3) POVs in the organized, structural the author always follows
It is not:
1) A general market "clean" book.
2) A magical fairy tale retelling.
3) Light and fluffy.
4) YA (Young Adult).
This story has strong faith elements (including God being the only Way, Truth and Life). It also holds true to the author's writing tagline: tales of redemption, faith, and action. While there is violence, there is not as much of this as Madisyn's book Deceived. Of course, there is nothing explicit in it.
Iron is also a Cinderella retelling, but it is inspired by the original Brother's Grimm version (although Madisyn has promised there will be no cut off toes or pecked out eyes in Iron!).
That's a little bit about Iron. And guess what time it is now? Time to interview a character!
Meet Chamonix Seyden, a princess.
Thank you for hosting me, Miss Agnès. I appreciate your hospitality.
1. What is your favorite memory?
My favorite memory is when Father, Mother, and I went riding during the perfect autumn day. The air was so crisp and smelled of fallen leaves, and the autumnal colors were so striking.
2. Why is that your favorite memory?
It is my favorite memory because my parents are the king and queen of Veerham, which means they are not always available for extracurricular activities. I always treasure the moments when I am able to spend time with them.
3. Would you rather always feel angry about life or always feel happy about it?
I would rather feel constantly happy about life. Anger is so corrosive and deadly, and it hurts those you love.
4. What is the most painful memory that you can think of?
The most painful memory I can recall is watching Redwyn’s parents be assassinated. I was young and it was dark and shadowy, but time and lack of light will never diminish the horror I experienced. Life is sacred, and I had no choice but to watch it be forcibly snuffed out.
5. Would you rather have all brothers or all sisters?
I would rather have all sisters. Redwyn is already like a sibling, so I have some experience with what it would be like with a sister. I do not think I would know what to do with brothers.
6. Why do you follow the rules of etiquette?
Rules are important, and as a princess, I must be an exemplary example to the kingdom. My parents depend on me to behave and do as I ought, and my people need me to focus on learning how to be the upcoming queen they deserve.
7. Would you rather to always be judged by yourself or by others?
I would rather be judged by myself. In my experience, it is more difficult to bear others’ judgment because they often indulge in gossip.
8. What would you rather have in a best friend: patience or loyalty?
I rather have loyalty. I do, actually, already have such a friend. Redwyn will never be known for being patient, but her loyalty is invaluable and I am blessed to know her.
9. Do you like your name? If not, what would you change it to if you could? If so, why?
I do like my name. It was my great-aunt’s, and I vaguely remember her offering me sugar cookies. She was also Mother’s favorite aunt.
10. Who is the person you trust the most?
Aside from my parents, I trust Redwyn. She may be brash, headstrong, stubborn, and excellent at disobeying orders she deems ridiculous, but she can have excellent advice and knows how to keep secrets.
11. What comes to mind when you think "villain"?
I think of the wretched souls who are kidnapping children. I eagerly await the day they meet justice.
Thank you so much for interviewing Chamonix, Agnès!
